08:28 pm - End of the livejournal... long live the RSS
I've replaced this LiveJournal account with an RSS feed at http://www.employees.org/news/RSS. But never fear, if you still want to read it on LiveJournal it's syndicated to [info]employeesorg.

And of course you can just read the news directly at http://www.employees.org/news.

04:25 am - New Plone interface
I moved the employees.org web pages over to Plone. We'll see if we like it. Eventually I hope to make this blog just a syndication of our news RSS feed. But before that, I'll need to get RSS atually working...

You can see the most up to date news now at http://www.employees.org/news

We're renumbering all users tonight who have uids below 1000 (we're reserving <1000 for system accounts now). If anything breaks, mail help@employees.org.

Installed coreutils (all the fun GNU utilities like ls, more, etc). They're all installed with a leading "g" prefix. So gls, gtail, etc.

If you want to just replace everything with the GNU versions, I've created a /usr/local/gnu for this. Just put /usr/local/gnu/bin early in your PATH and /usr/local/gnu/man early in your MANPATH.

Rebuilt screen from /usr/ports. The pre-packaged screen seems to escalate its priority until it gobbles up all available CPU.

We renumbered a bunch of users over the weekend and broke some web pages. They should be fixed now.

For those of you with SWWW directories, they should provide HTTPS again.
